Effect of Enterpreneurial Competencies on Operational Performance of Small and Medium Scale Entreprises in Sokoto State, Nigeria

This study examines the effect of entrepreneurial competencies on the operational performance of small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) in Sokoto State, Nigeria. Specifically, the study examines how the dimension of entrepreneurial competencies (entrepreneurial skills) influence SMEs' operational performance. The paper adopts a survey research design, with a study population of 3552 registered SMEs' in Sokoto metropolis a sample of 346 SMEs were selected using Krejcie and Morgan’s table for sample size determination. A structured questionnaire based on five likert scale was used as the instrument of data collection. The obtained data was analyzed using multiple regression analysis, at a 5% level of significance, with the assistance of SPSS version 26. The findings revealed that entrepreneurial skills significantly enhanced operational performance of SMEs' in Sokoto State. Based on these results, it is recommended that policymakers at the state level and other stakeholders should focus on promoting skill development programs for entrepreneurs in Sokoto Metropolis, as they are directly related to improving operational performance of SMEs in Sokoto State.
